Overview
Orphan Stuart Schuyler and wealthy colonist Tom Ludow, who both love Squire Hathaway's daughter Pearl, enlist in the revolutionary army to fight against the British. Stuart reluctantly accompanies brave Tom on a dangerous mission into British territory in New York, where Tom is captured and impressed into service. Stuart returns to camp, and falsely informs his superiors that Tom turned traitor. Stuart is honored and receives a month's furlough, during which time he persuades Squire Hathaway to give him Pearl's hand in marriage, although Pearl objects. Meanwhile, Tom has escaped and brought valuable information to his commanding officers, thus clearing his name and obtaining the rank of captain. On the eve of Pearl and Stuart's wedding, Tom arrives at the Hathaway home, and hands Stuart a disgracing letter from the colonel Tom and Pearl happily embrace.
